God is the only eternal king (Revelation 4:9)

April 6, 2022

God sits on a heavenly throne. Man didn’t put Him there. Man can’t take Him from His position. God is the only eternally seated Potentate or king. The Greek word (kathemai) for “sit” means remains and resides and dwells.

He remains and resides and dwells

This seems simple enough. God is the only king who remains on the throne forever. Other kings come and go but no one will unseat Him. He is the only Perfect King. Since we come to the throne of grace for mercy, it’s wonderful that He will always be there. The king is never out on other business. Both God and His Son Jesus are on the Heavenly throne. But He remains unchanging. He resides in heaven forever. He dwells both in heaven and in the hearts of believers through the Holy Spirit. Through that relationship, He remains and resides and dwells in us as well.

On the throne

A throne is a stately seat where a potentate does business. A throne is reserved for a king. It represents where He rules. The throne of God is like none other. There are all kinds of creatures worshiping God all the time. The throne is also a place the believer can access in this life any time. We are encouraged to come boldly to the the throne of grace to receive mercy and grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

God lives forever and ever

Forever and ever indicates continually through time. God is before all things and He will remain after the earth is no more and countries die and kings pass. God never perishes. He will never be overthrown. Because He is life itself- this guarantees life remains. Beyond comprehension to our minds limited by time and space. But that’s why He is God and we are not. Presidents rise and fall. But God is forever king of my heart.
