What is your passion? Some have said follow your checkbook and you will see what you truly value. Another way to identify your passion is to see how you spend your most valuable asset- time. The psalmist identified the passion and pleasure of a blessed man. The description is that man would remain true to the Word of God and meditate day and night in it.
“What delight comes to those who follow God’s ways! They won’t walk in step with the wicked, nor share the sinner’s way, nor be found sitting in the scorner’s seat. Their pleasure and passion is remaining true to the Word of “I Am” meditating day and night in his true revelation of light.” Psalm 1:1-2 The Passion Translation
Devotion to Bible reading and study is prerequisite to great success. The Great “I Am” is the smartest wisest person you will ever meet. I believe every story in the Bible was recorded for our example and benefit. Stories of every type of temptation and problem known to man are included. Descriptions of how some failed and others succeeded are recorded.
But the highest reason to have a passion for God’s Word is that it is the primary means by which God speaks to us personally. We have a passion for God Himself and want to know Him more. The psalms give us words to describe our love to God. The proverbs give us His wisdom. But the Word gives us revelation in any area of life. It is said that Christopher Columbus gained a revelation from God’s Word that the earth was round and not square (as was the thinking of his day) and then pursued his voyage based on that revelation which many feared to attempt.
So regardless of your passion, you must believe that God will lead you through His Word with counsel and illumination on your career, ministry, raising children, use of money and most importantly your walk with God. Let’s never let Bible study and reading become a religious exercise because it is intended to increase our passion for life and God Himself.
