Praise is passionate:
Psa 63:1 ” O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee”. This psalm of David shows his passion for God. He knows God as his personal friend —not just his father’s God. God becomes your personal God when you communicate with Him frequently. David was a shepherd who sang and praised God while herding sheep. Psa 63:1b “my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is”. When we open our heart to God without pretense and with transparency, it fills the longing in our soul for significance and love. How often we substitute other people, possessions, pursuits or even food to satisfy what only God can fill in our soul.
Praise satisfies our soul
Psa 63:5a “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness” Praise can be spoken privately or it can be done with other people. A soul that is satisfied is full of God’s love. The more we acknowledge God and what He has done for us and what He means to us, the more we are satisfied. The more I begin to say “God, I need You, I long for You” I find my feelings follow. When my emotions feel dry, I can from my spirit cry out to be filled with His wonderful presence and He always willingly comes to be with us.
Praise with joyful lips
Psa 63:5b”and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips”. Joy comes from the heart. Praise is joy expressed with words. Affection unspoken is not praise. So I believe God loves to hear our praises in the same way we enjoy talking with our children.
