We’ve all experienced the variety of platform speech from precise words to verbose. Many times worship leaders get into a rut and our words don’t really communicate a lot.
The Scriptures say:
Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
Edifying words on the platform
May every song and word minister grace and help to the hearers. May every word count and be thoughtfully considered before spoken. Words spoken from frustration do not minister grace, but rather condemnation. Edifying words build up rather than tear down. Words on the platform should be few. Leading worship is not the time to preach or teach. We are calling people to worship and directing the congregation to a meaningful experience with God.
Edifying words off the platform
Worship leaders, our mouths are to praise every day of the week- not just on Sunday. Our words are to build up. The more our words off the platform match our words on the platform we are truly allowing the Holy Spirit to use us—all the time. The words we speak to our spouse and children matter. We are not performing for an audience who don’t know about us. That is the world’s way. Popular music celebrities may have a totally different private life than they portray from the stage. But that is not the way with God’s servants. God’s Spirit is free to move when we are pure vessels for His Words.
