Praise and Worship

Do you worship in color or black and white?

March 6, 2022

When you worship Jesus, what do you picture? Most of the time I think of Jesus as He existed on this earth and through artist descriptions. But this scripture gives us a feel of the atmosphere around Him in heaven. There are rainbow colors up there!

Revelation 4:2-3  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. . . and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

The throne of God

Many songs include the phrase “seated on the throne” . The imagery in this passage indicates how the throne looks. The rainbow around the throne appeared as an emerald. When I visited Lake Louise in Canada for the first time, I saw an emerald sea. It was surreal in it’s gorgeous green color. I was used to the muddy waters of the Mississippi and comparatively it was simply gorgeous and I couldn’t take my eyes off its beauty. So picture an emerald green rainbow all around the throne and you have an image of life and purity and beauty.

The rainbow around the throne

On vacation in New Mexico I saw a triple rainbow which was amazing. But I think heaven will beat anything we have seen on this earth. There is a real place called heaven. No, I haven’t been there, but others have and have returned to tell it. In the book of Revelation, we have the report of what John saw. When things on earth look bad, remember there’s a place called heaven. There is peace there. Things are right there. This is the place where God and Jesus sit. This is the God we worship. He is not a vapor. He can be seen. He is not an idea. Jesus is God in flesh. His blood has been shed on the altar in heaven. He is worthy to be worshiped and praised. He has given His life for us. The rainbow is an image of covenant and good will. The colors represent life and God’s grace.
