3 Ways to Encourage Others

January 8, 2022

Let’s face it. We are pretty self-consumed a lot of the time. We don’t wake up in the morning thinking about others unless we purposely do so. We think of our “to do list” each day rather than thinking about somebody else’s. Because of this focus on our agendas, we can become pushy and interested in our stuff, but not always the other guy’s.

The Bible gives us direction to think of others. We are not the center of the universe. Let’s look at Hebrews 10:24 today and then some ways to encourage others.

“We should think about each other to see how we can encourage each other to show love and do good works.”  Hebrews 10:24 ERV

  1. Put yourself in the other guy’s shoes.

Our personal visions consume us with passion. But your vision isn’t the same as the next guy’s. When we stop and let compassion rule instead of reason, then we gain perspective on the behaviors of those around us. This is key when scheduling people to work in your department. Give people some room when they are stressed. Instead of perceiving their inability to commit as your challenge, try to think how you would like to be treated if the roles were reversed.

  1. Compliment people

One day I was served by a beautiful young woman and felt impressed to tell her she was beautiful because I meant it and felt she needed someone to tell her. Her eyes lit up as she realized someone saw “her” and not just received her service. I believe it made her day.

  1. Perform an act of kindness

Recently a young mother was having financial challenges. I simply wrote a check and told the young mother to spend it on herself because I knew she put her children first and rarely had money for herself. Then I gave her a big hug telling her God loved her and appreciated what she did.

Father, let us live with our eyes upon You and also open to see those around us. Help me today be a beacon of love and joy to somebody else.
