When you live on a farm you live with the seasons. There is spring planting where you prepare the ground and plant the seed. Then there is summer when you weed and watch the seed grow and mature. Fall is harvest time and the final reward of your harvest. Then comes winter and everything rests for the next season. This is the rotation and life on a farm but it also represents life cycles in general.
Somehow in our instant gratification society, we expect immediate results from everything. Just because the internet is fast, doesn’t mean our life produces results at that speed. The reason these take time is that they involve people and not just things. Things can be easily manipulated and transmitted. People have wills and egos and selfishness. Here are some life projects that take time.
- Prayer answers
- Spiritual maturity
- Children to grow to adults
- Building a ministry or career
- A lasting marriage over time
- Relationships
- People coming to Jesus
- Churches growing
“And don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!” Galatians 6:9 The Passion Translation
Planting and harvesting take time. They must be watered and weeded. Similarly, people projects take time. And just because you have an occasional setback or bad crop doesn’t mean you stop planting. Planting seeds is required for any harvest. If you aren’t seeing results then keep planting and watering the seed! Some projects take longer to mature than others. Keep expecting that seed to produce!
