    Devotion about “Why God Why?”

    November 19, 2022

We have all experienced situations where we want to ask “Why God?”.  Usually it is that someone died whom we loved or something we wanted to see come to pass didn’t materialize. The scripture below gives us part of the reason when your confusion deals with another person.

“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.” Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT

God has secrets you are not accountable for. Another way to say this is “it’s not any of your business”. That can bother us because we feel we have to know the reason why. However, let’s look at this another way. Aren’t you glad God doesn’t tell all your secrets and mistakes and times when you didn’t do right to other people? Simply, God honors your privacy and is not a gossip. He won’t air your laundry before others. When you think of unanswered questions about others’ lives, this helps you rest in the fact “you don’t know and don’t need to know”.

God is under no obligation to answer all your questions.

But concerning your life, God will tell you why things didn’t work out if you ask Him. Some financial situations or job situations that you didn’t receive may not become apparent until later you begin to see that He was keeping you from a bad situation and in His mercy probably intervened that deal didn’t go through. Here’s what we do know:

God is only the author of good and never evil in our lives. He never sends sickness to teach you something. He never steals from you a loved one because He needs them in heaven. John 10:10 “The thief does not come except that he may steal, and kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and may have it abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd! The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep.” When people die prematurely it is the work of the devil or human error and not God.

In spite of unanswered questions, we know this: God is good and never fails us. He weeps when you weep and cares about your hurt. He will comfort you by His Spirit. However, He won’t always tell you “why” because He also keeps our secrets and never repeats a confidence.
