Devotion about God’s calling your name

January 5, 2022

Today I took my usual walk in my neighborhood and overheard the loud call “Maggie?” “Maggie?” My neighbor asked if I had seen their missing terrier dog? They were frantically trying to locate the dog by calling her name.

As I listened to my spirit, I felt God telling me that He is daily calling all His children. Some haven’t met Him yet. Others once were close but have strayed. Is God calling your name today? Does He miss you? Are you close to Him or have you strayed from close communion like Maggie the dog?

Sometimes we don’t want to hear God because we’re afraid He’s going to ask us to do something. Perhaps we’re ashamed that we haven’t been living a holy life. But I sense that most the time, God just wants our fellowship and isn’t waiting to correct us. He simply wants to be included in our everyday lives.

It’s recorded in Acts 2:39  “For this promise belongs to you and your children, as well as to all those who are distant, whom the Lord our God may call to himself.”

God is calling us to Himself. He wants to love us. He wants to direct us. He wants to correct us if we’re going the wrong direction. Let’s not be so busy we put Him last instead of first. Let’s turn down the noise around us and simply be still and listen.
