Forgiveness is probably the biggest thing we have received from God.
Colossians 1:14 states “In Whom we have our redemption through His blood, [which means] the forgiveness of our sins”.
- Jesus redeemed us with His blood.
- We needed to be forgiven.
- Jesus paid the price for our redemption.
Sometimes we forget how much God has forgiven us. No matter what someone has done to us- we are told in Mark 10:8 “Freely you have received, freely give.” Since we have been forgiven, we must freely forgive others and ourselves. Unforgiveness is a poison. But it doesn’t hurt our offender. It poisons us. To hold onto unforgiveness is like taking poison yourself and thinking the other person will be destroyed. No, unfortunately, unforgiveness poisons US.
So forgiveness is a gift we have received from God that will keep us from becoming bitter. Let’s face it- we will always need to be forgiven by God and others because we make mistakes. In the same way, realize that others need forgiveness as well.
