Allow peace to guide your decisions

October 25, 2022

Umpires make decisions based on their perspective. Is the runner safe or out? Did the point count or not? From one perspective things look one way. But the umpire usually has a vantage point to make a good decision. Human umpires can make mistakes. But the Holy Spirit is an umpire that operates in an atmosphere of peace. He can direct your decisions if you will listen. That’s the problem I sometimes have. I get in a hurry and don’t always take time to pray and listen.

“And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds.” Colossians 3:15 (AMP)

Our minds try to reason the right solution. Sometimes they are correct. Often we are missing some information to make a good decision. That’s why the Holy Spirit guiding your heart is such a great guide and umpire.

How does peace feel to you? Is it restful? Lack of peace is a sense the timing isn’t right. That sense inside you that isn’t restful. It feels agitated. Taking time to wait is so important when you’re not certain. Any time you feel pressure to make a decision is a good time to back away and choose not to make a decision. Very few decisions must be made impulsively and yet we feel the pressure to “do something”. Waiting even a day can sometimes give fresh perspective.
