How to choose not to Fear

September 29, 2022

Fear is in our world. But fear doesn’t have to be in our hearts or minds. Fear is the satanic counterfeit of faith. It is believing the negative will happen. We were not wired to live with fear. It short-circuits us. It causes physical distress and problems. And it does have an ability to create what is feared to come to pass.

2 Timothy 1:7 “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Feeling fear is real. But we can also choose not to dwell on fear. Some people say “do it afraid” and mean not to let fear stop you from doing what you are supposed to do. Everyday opportunities are presented to us.

So how do we not pay attention to a fear? We have to put our attention and mind and thoughts upon something else. The best thing is to find a scripture that promises what you need. This is why reading and meditating and memorizing scripture is so important. It will give you the audible weapons to pull down the lies of fear with the truth of faith in God’s Word. The Word in your heart must also be in your mouth. When you speak truth to a lie, you take control. Take time to allow God’s Word to speak to your heart. Then when it becomes real, speak it so you can hear it. When the fears speak inside your head, stop the recording by speaking what you want to hear.

Proverbs 4:20 (NCV) My child, pay attention to my words; listen closely to what I say.

Here’s some scriptures for some common fears:

  • Fear of sickness? “by whose stripes we were healed” 1 Peter 2:24
  • Fear of failure? “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13
  • Fear of lack? “My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19
