A Prayer for spiritual insight in all things

August 26, 2022

Many times people ask for prayer. How do we pray for people? There are such great prayers in Paul’s letters. One of these is found in Philippians 1:9. Let’s look at it.

“I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things.” Philippians 1:9 The Passion Translation

Prayer for our love to grow and increase beyond measure

First of all we need a continual insight into how much God loves us. This is more than mental understanding- it is a knowing deep inside that we believe God’s love for us. The more I receive God’s love, the more I can allow it to flow from me to others. God’s very love is in my spirit, so I have His love to give to others. The more difficult the person, the more love grows as I give action to that love. When I think of God’s love increasing, I think of the idea of paying it forward. When I give love to the grocery check-out person, then they give love to the next person in line and on it goes. Every day every act of loving service through deed or prayer or kindness will seed love to someone else.

Prayer for rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things.

This part of the prayer is that God’s wisdom would be imparted to us in every area of life. Perhaps it’s wisdom about finances. Perhaps it’s wisdom on parenting. Perhaps it’s wisdom to make a decision about the future. God is the only Wise one who knows the end from the beginning. He sees what we don’t see and knows what we don’t know. So this prayer really covers about everything! “The Greek word used here for “insight” means practical understanding linked to life. Wisdom that is revealed to your spirit means it doesn’t come through what you know or learn. It comes from God and His Word. The word implies walking out the truth that insight reveals. It could be translated experience or discernment, but indicates to experience the reality of something and apply it to life” (Study notes from the Passion Translation Philippians page 65). Let’s pray this prayer for ourselves and loved ones.
