Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us pray. He doesn’t do our praying for us, however. Jesus instructed us to pray to the Father in Jesus’name. That is how we pray.
John 16:23 (NLT) At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name.
But sometimes we don’t know what we should pray for. This is where the Holy Spirit helps us. He guides us and prays through us. Praying in the spirit will always be praying the will of God. When you have prayed what you know to pray according to God’s Word, then allow the Holy Spirit to help you pray what you don’t know to pray.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The Holy Spirit will help us where we lack. We may lack information- but God’s Spirit knows all the details. We may lack the wisdom-but God’s Spirit takes the wisdom of God and directs our prayers. There are times the compassion of God overwhelms you and helps you pray for someone in danger or trouble. The help of the Holy Spirit in prayer can’t be stressed enough. He uses our voice, but sometimes it seems there are not even words and we cry out for the one in distress. This too is the help of the Holy SpiritH
