Prayer

Prayers don’t have to be long to be effective

May 30, 2022

How many times do we fail to pray because we “just don’t have time?” For some reason we make prayer to be a long drawn-out process.  There are times when we take more time to pray. But for most of us, prayer should be just a part of our daily discipline. What are the things you pray for regularly?

Paul indicated that he “made mention” of people in his prayers. Making mention simply means to speak out their name in prayer. Sometimes simply praying:

“Father, I lift our president to you today. Please give him wisdom and strength to make good decisions. Protect him and his family.”

It’s amazing the people that will come to your mind. Taking time to lift them in prayer right then is a great way to “make mention” of that person in prayer. So what do you pray? I like to memorize the Ephesians prayers especially so that whether I’m driving or walking, I can pray a productive prayer.

One of the prayers that Paul “mentioned” is recorded in Ephesians 1:16-19:

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,  And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power”

Just this past week when we had family photographs taken, the photographer mentioned a prayer concern. We just joined hands and lifted up the situation for a moment. How many times can you discipline yourself to “make mention or others” in your prayers this week?
