God’s will not my will

August 18, 2022

The will is a powerful thing. There is God’s will.  There is my will.  There is the will of those who live with me. There is the will of those I work with. With all these powerful wills there will be conflict at times. So every single day there are self-willed people trying to do what they want to do and then there is God trying to get through to us to do His will first! God’s got a big job to get our attention when all I want to do tonight is sit and relax. I do find comfort knowing that God will not ask me to do something I am unable to do or overload me when I am truly exhausted. But He certainly does inconvenience me at times!

Jesus perfectly yielded to God’s will all the time and He is my hero and example. He stated: “Father, if it is your will, take this cup of suffering away from me. However, your will must be done, not mine.”

I think the battle of the wills occurs every day. It’s not just the biggies of life like whether I will go to Africa on a mission trip. For me it’s the everyday things that He is dealing with me about. Will I eat right or eat what I want? Will I pray for that person who wronged me or just be angry at them? Will I take the extra time to read the Word and feed my spirit when I really want to watch a movie? It’s the little decisions daily that add up. It’s a journey for us all to grow in.

One thing I have learned over the years is that whenever I follow His will at the expense of mine, I am absolutely blessed. God is not out to take from me but to add to me. He is giving me an opportunity to grow and be a blessing to somebody else. Usually He has somebody else in mind when He interrupts my plans. And His plan is always the best.
