2 Ways to Relax

July 26, 2022

I just returned from a 3 day vacation where I did some relaxing. Some vacations don’t actually rest you because the purpose is to see people or things. I’m learning to take at least one yearly prayer retreat where I go and sit and pray. I believe we need those times to pull away. But how do I live relaxed all the time? I really like the following scripture.

Psalm 116:7  My soul, relax! The LORD is caring for you.

I need to learn to tell my soul (my mind, my will, my emotions) to relax or rest. Relaxing is more than physical. It is primarily emotional or mental.

1.Tell yourself to mentally relax

When I feel myself getting overwhelmed, I try to pause and breathe. It’s not worth losing my peace when challenging situations arise. I tend to mentally overthink things. So I am learning to realize I don’t have to know all the answers. I don’t need every detail running through my mind. When I find myself awake when I should be sleeping I just fix my mind on a scripture or start praying for someone else. Night time is never a good time for me to figure things out so instead of loosing sleep, I just switch mental gears and put my mind to work on something else.

2.Remind yourself the Lord is caring for you

It’s so true that the Lord cares for us. We are not wired to hold onto cares, so the Bible instructs us to cast our cares. When we simply take the time to give our cares to the Lord, we will discover He has big shoulders and can carry the burden for us. Every little thing as well as the big things are important to God. He wants to be involved and have us live care-free. God cares about your health and your finances and your relationships because He cares about you and those you love. Let’s live simply and relax in His love!
