We hear the phrase “holy God” used in songs and the Bible. It refers to God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The heaven where God and Jesus live never ceases to hear this phrase. Imagine a continual worship service that never stops. I like to remember when we begin to worship, we are entering into an ongoing river of worship. At any moment beings on heaven and earth are making a symphony of worship to our Holy God. He is eternal. He was and is and is coming.
Revelation 4:8 gives us a picture of heaven: “Each of the four living creatures had six wings, and their bodies were covered with eyes. Day and night they never stopped singing, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, the all-powerful God, who was and is and is coming!”
What does Holy mean?
The Greek word for Holy is hagios. It means full of awe, sacred, physically pure, morally blameless, ceremonially consecrated, most holy one. God the Father, God the Son and the God the Holy Spirit are holy and pure and blameless and awesome!
Jesus is holy
He is the only man ever born that is sinless. His Father was God. He had to be sinless to take our place and redeem us. But Jesus also lived a sinless life. Again He is the only one who never sinned as he walked the earth. If He hadn’t done this, He could not be our Savior. He would have merely been a great man who died a martyr’s death. Of course Jesus is God as well as man. He is God who took on an earth suit so He could die for us and make it possible for us to be born again and have the Holy Spirit live in us. He alone deserves worship with our words and our very lives. He gave His all for us.
