Devotion about your importance to the harvest

January 7, 2022

The word “come” is used frequently in the New Testament. Disciples would encourage their friends to come and hear what Jesus had to say. They would encourage the sick to come and hear and be healed.  Inviting others to come experience God’s presence in a worship service can result in them realizing God is good and is real.

We also know that no one can come to Jesus unless the Spirit draws them. No one can reveal Jesus as Savior or Healer or Deliverer unless the Spirit reveals that. Everyone needs to hear the truth before they can believe. Once they hear the truth, then the Spirit of God will work with that Word to reveal to the heart that it is true. Recently when reading the following scripture I realized that for people to come to Jesus and receive anything from Him requires two things. First somebody has to invite them to hear the Word of God. Secondly the Spirit of God has to reveal to every person personally to receive the truth. It’s actually a duet or a dual effort.

“Come, says the Holy Spirit and the Bride in divine duet. Let everyone who hears this duet join them in saying, “Come”. Let everyone gripped with spiritual thirst say, “Come”. And let everyone who craves the gift of living water come and drink it freely. “It is my gift to you! “Come”  Revelation 22:17 The Passion Translation

When you’re singing a song that contains truth in a worship service, the Holy Spirit is necessary to open the eyes of the person to personalize that truth. When you are teaching a Sunday school class, the Holy Spirit is the One to reveal truth of that Scripture. When you are on the phone with a grieving widow, the Holy Spirit uses your words and prayers to minister peace to her heart. When you are waiting to cross the street and encourage that person waiting with you that God loves them, the Spirit of God works with that word to bring enlightenment.

God’s Spirit is always ready to reveal the truth that we share. But the Word of God is like a seed that must first be planted. We plant that Word through speaking it and sharing with others. Then the Spirit of God waters that Word until it grows. Let’s be confident that the Word of God is a life seed that will always produce. And the Spirit of God is always waiting for somebody to speak that Word so He has something to water and bring to life.

Who are you inviting to come today? You are important for the harvest!
