Devotion: 3 prayer points to know God More  (Ephesians 1:17)

December 28, 2021

It should be our prayer to know God more every day. Paul had that one goal- that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection. Paul didn’t just desire it though, he wrote the prayer he probably frequently prayed. Since Paul had received such a revelation from God that changed the world, I have found it vital personally to pray the same prayer for myself and others on a regular basis. Today, let’s look at the first part of Paul’s prayer and also examine what it means for us today.

“I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with Him.” Ephesians 1;17 TPT

  1. First of all we pray to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus.

Since Jesus came to reveal to us His Father, Father is who we address in our prayer. To be able to say “Heavenly Father” means we have been born again into God’s family through accepting Jesus as our Savior. No matter how long we have been Christians, it is still important to revisit the amazing truth that we have a Father in Heaven who loved us so much. If He gave His own Son for us, what else would He withhold? Our Heavenly Father is benevolent and kind and wants to show us His heart and nature to whoever will take time to reach out to know Him!

  1. Secondly, we ask God to impart wisdom and revelation to know Him more

It’s easy to get in a rut of praying for needs and situations and even people but forget the highest purpose of prayer is talking to Father God. As we talk to Him from our heart, we begin to understand how wonderful He really is. Sometimes we are anxious and He will calm us. Sometimes we are determined to get our own way, but He shows us a better way. These are benefits of praying. But how much time do we take just reading His Word to know Him better? Every time we read a Biblical account, there is revelation by God’s Spirit to see God’s heart. We want to know His heart and really what makes Him smile and what makes Him cry. He is a Person more wonderful than anyone we will ever meet and yet seldom do we make time with Him our priority. Anything we understand about our Father has been revealed to us through His Word, prayer and time with Him. How well do we really know His faithfulness, His provision, His love and peace and joy?

  1. Finally, we ask for a deeper intimacy with Father

It is mind-boggling that we can have a deeper intimacy with our Heavenly Father. We don’t have to stay in a professional relationship with Him. He encourages us to come closer. He wants to say “all is well” and peace in our storms. He wants to hear our praises and loving worship. In the busy affairs of life, He wants to be there and heard amidst the chaos. Nobody loves or cares for us like Father God. He is a personal God to be touched and accompany us on our journey. Let’s talk with Him all day long and hear His heart of love. Because His Spirit lives in us, He is always with us and in us and available twenty-four seven!

Lord, I want to know You more. I give You more of my thoughts and bare my heart to Your love. I give You my worship and my trust.
