Deal with each challenge one day at a time

December 27, 2021

“Refuse to worry about tomorrow but deal with each challenge that comes your way one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.” Matthew 6:34 TPT

Worry comes naturally. Living carefree comes supernaturally. For the believer in Jesus it should be our natural way of doing things. But it must be learned and practiced. We “know” we “shouldn’t worry”. But it’s easy to slide into that habit because it takes no effort to do it. But to renew our minds and “deal with” the challenges of daily life requires concerted focus. Our minds will slip into worry so easily. Tracking in the worry lane is as easy as tracking in dirt from outdoors into our houses on our feet. “Wipe your feet” or “take off your shoes” your Mother commands. She knows the work to undo the debris tracked into your house.

So how about keeping worry out of your mental house? Be reminded that worry will wear you down. It will take energy from you. It will occupy your time but produce no positive results. Worry steals peace and unsettles your stomach. Worry keeps you awake at night. Slowly worry will steal your health and your joy. It’s obvious this is not the abundant life Jesus intends for us. I like the illustration that worry is like rocking in a chair- it gives you something to do but doesn’t get you anywhere.

So, let’s look at ways to kick the worry habit or deal with each challenge.

  1. Identify the challenge and instead of thinking the solution in your mind, go to God in prayer and ask Him for the true answer. Sometimes a challenge masquerades as a financial need but is actually just fear in disguise. You deal with fear differently than finances. Ask for His help. Before you call your best friend. Before you post on social media. Because your Heavenly Father really knows best.
  2. Immediately find scriptures that promise what you need in your challenge. Think and speak these scriptures until your trust is renewed in God’s Word and ability to solve your challenge. Choose to trust God.
  3. Once you have prayed, switch to praise. It will keep you grounded and full of hope because you see the answer.

One day at a time is all we are wired to handle. So live in the present and enjoy everyday life! Are you dealing with multiple challenges? Then you have more reasons to praise God for working on all your challenges!
