Growth is evidence something is alive. Living things grow and reproduce. So let’s look at our spiritual lives today as compared to a year ago. Is there evidence that we are growing spiritually?
- Are you more loving toward people?
- Do you experience more joy on a regular basis?
- Are people around you noticing you are more peaceful?
These are all evidence of spiritual growth. Spiritual growth isn’t mere bible trivia knowledge. It comes from staying close to the Lord and His presence making a difference in how we act and think. Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian believers is to “know God better”.
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his people.” Ephesians 1:17-18 (TNIV)
Simply deciding to become more aware of God and making time in your schedule for Him will result in spiritual growth. But also praying that God would reveal Himself to you and show you what you need to know (wisdom) for everyday life is a place to start. Realize God wants to help you grow and live from your spirit. He wants to reveal things to you in this coming year.
