Accessing God’s power to help (Ephesians 1:19)

July 11, 2022

When you think of God’s power, what comes to mind? God’s power is demonstrated in creation. It’s most amazing display was in the resurrection of Jesus (and us). In Ephesians 1:19 it states  “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe”. There is great power available to the believing one. This word power is translated from the Greek word dunamis and means miraculous power, abundance, ability and strength. This scripture is part of a prayer that Paul prayed that we would experience God’s power in our lives.

What is exceeding great power?

Great power would be pretty good- but exceeding great power is exceptional. It exceeds anything you will ever need. He is not just enough or barely enough- but More than Enough! Therefore exceeding abundance or ability or strength means more than enough to get the job done. That is available to us!

God’s power will do anything you need done. It will give you strength when you feel weak physically or emotionally. When we realize God’s power raised Jesus and all man from death—then nothing you face can tap its strength. Have you prayed for God’s exceeding great power to go to work on that tough relationship?

What is the condition?

There is a condition to the operation of God’s power, however. It is to us who believe. We must believe God has the power. We must also believe He wants to demonstrate it on our behalf.

So this part of the prayer I like to pray for myself and others whenever we are faltering, discouraged or challenged.

Since I have become a grandparent, I now understand the extravagant love of God in a way I didn’t before. I desire to lavish my grandchildren with time, prayer, and gifts at Christmas! That is how God loves you as well! Nothing is too small for Him to overlook or too large for Him to be overwhelmed. And be assure that God wants to be involved in your project if you will allow His exceeding great power to go to work.
