Powerful prayer to know 3 things (Ephesians 1:18)

February 24, 2022

It’s great to know things! But what exactly was the prayer in Ephesians 1:18 referring to?

Know and understand things

We  pray to be enlightened in our understanding. This covers everything in which we need wisdom. To be enlightened is to see things in a different way. At night we stumble because we lack light. When the light comes on we know where to walk. We can lack understanding in practical areas, in relationships or spiritual areas. That’s why this is such a great prayer!

Know God’s calling

The second part of this great prayer is for us to know what is the hope of His calling. Hope is the dream or the picture we see. When you see the hope of your calling as a worship leader- do you see people having a great encounter with God and connecting with Him? When you see the hope of your calling as you pray for others- do you see the answers you have asked coming to pass? Hope will not answer prayer, but it keeps you from casting away your confidence. Doubts may come, but your hope picture or dream keeps you steady.

Know the inheritance in us

The final part of the prayer is to know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. One thing in our inheritance is that Christ lives in us.  Christ- the anointed one and his anointing is  in us! Having God living in you is incredible! How this changes everything! God is not merely with us or beside us—but in the saints! And that’s you and me today- (not just dead saints who performed many miracles). Paul frequently wrote to saints in every city he visited—and he wasn’t writing to dead people!
