Devotion: The prayer to see things more clearly (Ephesians 1:18)

December 30, 2021

The prayer to understand all things more clearly is always a great prayer. God knows everything about everyone and every type of situation. Whether we need to see more clearly how to understand a person or how to invent a new way to perform a task, there is revelation waiting for us to receive. Let’s look at Paul’s prayer from the Passion translation of Ephesians 1:18 and examine it.

I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling- that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritance that he finds in us, his holy ones!” Ephesians 1:18

1.Pray the light of God will illuminate your imagination

Sight is not merely physically seeing with our optical nerve. Insight is valuable in every realm of life. Perhaps you need to know the approach to take with a troubled team member you are to counsel. Praying for wisdom to see things from their perspective will help us know not only what to say but how to say it. We can approach God prayerfully that He would enlighten us how to administrate a project or how to invent a new method of marketing. I have experienced God’s enlightenment to help me teach a music student who was having trouble with a concept. The God who is both a teacher and a scientist and a creator and is all-knowing wants us to ask for help to see things from His perspective.

2.Prayer to experience a full revelation of his calling

Paul’s prayer included a plee to experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling. What has God called you to? Do you fully see it yet? Do you see the big picture of the Church and its calling on earth to the lost? Every one of us is a piece of the puzzle. Our part is vital to the overall picture. The more clearly we see the big picture, we feel a part of something bigger than our individual part to play. We also can seek for greater understanding of why our part is so vital.

      3.Prayer to see our inheritance

Paul prayed to understand the wealth of God’s glorious inheritance that he finds in us, his holy ones! Because God’s Spirit lives in us, we are valuable to Him. He has placed His inheritance in us. We are holy ones because we are set apart for God and His purpose. It’s more important that we see we are His Children and are containers of His presence. Nothing is more valuable to us than to have God’s Presence living in us! We allow God to us our lives to love people into His Kingdom.
