Devotion about Giving Your Best

September 10, 2021

Do you take the initiative to work hard even when there is nobody asking you to do so? Sometimes we become lazy and just don’t think the effort is worth the trouble. But I have discovered I need to give a job my best for my own satisfaction. In addition, God is always honored when we contribute our best.

“Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.” Proverbs 6:6-8

Are you continually reading in the area of your ministry or career to improve?

The reason this is so important is that merely working hard does not ensure success. Doing the right thing in the right way does. Sometimes we have blind spots and don’t see that we may have improvements to make. Others in our field may have secrets they are willing to pass on through a physical book or internet blog or video. Make your personal growth a priority- no matter what your age or experience.

Are you looking for ways to improve your area of volunteering?

Recently I took a leadership volunteer position to find that there were areas to improve. There were updates to job descriptions and setting up an email response that had not been done. It would have been easier to just do the minimum required. But I got great satisfaction that I could make some improvements that made it easier for the entire organization. Don’t wait to be asked. If you have ideas to improve something in your church or non-profit, then submit them and then be willing to invest some time to implement them.

Do you do the minimum required or endeavor to leave your position better than it was when you came?

When our reason to improve something is to be seen, we will rarely give it our all. But doing your work heartily as unto the Lord and not for men will motivate you to give your best. Most of the time people will also notice that you went above and beyond. I wonder what would happen in our churches if we all gave it our best?
