Inviting God’s search

September 6, 2021

Psalm 139:23-24 God I invite your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious everlasting ways- the path that brings me back to you. We are used to searching for information on the internet. It’s a great source of information. But nothing replaces the all-knowing search of our Heavenly Father who knows everything about us. How often do we invite His searching our hearts and minds? The Psalmist prayer in Psalm 139 indicates that level of intimacy and trust.

Recently I took a retreat and rather than just pray about things, I took time to relax and read the Word and allow the Holy One to speak to my heart about what He was seeing in me. It wasn’t introspection, it was allowing God to inspect my condition. There was no guilt or condemnation- but rather areas to reveal where I was making my life more difficult.

“Sift through my anxious cares”. Yes, there were areas I had taken too much mental time to attempt to solve my own problems. These are to be cast on the Lord. He cares about what is troubling me. I hadn’t taken the time to really give these areas to Him. I know they will try to creep back into my mind again and I intend to not allow that in the future.

“See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on”. That was an interesting thought. My pain may be due to a wrong path- either mental or decision-wise. Let’s examine these to be sure I’m taking the right path.

“Lead me back to your glorious everlasting ways”. The good news is that I can turn around from a path that is a dead end and follow Spirit-guided paths instead. His paths are glorious and everlasting for my life – and yours!
