Who is Directing your life?

August 13, 2021

Proverbs 20:24 The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?

Why indeed? My reasoning and lack of understanding can get in the way of His plan. Since He knows all the things that are ahead (and I don’t) He is the only one qualified to take the lead.

Imagine for a minute you are preparing for a road trip with your family. Your 4 year old may decide he wants to stop and eat an unhealthy snack because he doesn’t know that you will stop in 3o minutes to eat a great meal in his favorite restaurant. The child is incapable of making the best decision because he lacks all the facts.

Similarly, God doesn’t always tell us what’s up ahead and that’s where trust comes in. Do we trust He always wants the best for us? He knows better than we about what will fulfill our lives and the call He has given us. I like to remember Father knows best. Whether it’s a lack of trust in His love or just selfishness on my part to want my way now- sometimes my self-will can delay God’s best in my life.

Perhaps another issue may be “have you really surrendered your life to His lordship?” Surrender requires trust. Trust requires relationship. Relationship requires time. So perhaps this is the heart of the issue. Do I invest time in my relationship with God so that I can develop trust and therefore allow Him to lead the way in my life? We have a Bible filled with examples of all the people who did (and did not) trust God with all their heart and the results are pretty obvious. Follow God’s will and way and you will prosper. Follow your own pursuits and you will usually fail. You choose.
