What One Thing Do You Seek?

January 17, 2022

Your Presence is what I seek

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for and insistently require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord (in His presence) all the days of my life…. You have said, Seek My face (inquire for and require My presence as your vital need). My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence) Lord, will I seek.” Psalm 27:4,8 amp

We were created for God’s presence from day one. There’s a place in us that only God’s living presence can fill. When we’re full of Him, we desire nothing else. And the thing is, only we can seek Him and desire Him and require Him. We can try to fill ourselves with relationships or success or even ministry. But after a time, everything else doesn’t fill us like He does. We need Him like we need air. But the tense of knowing Him is now. It is never I knew Him yesterday- but how about today? Every day He wants us to draw near to Him. It’s so easy to seek Him. Simply wake up each day and tell Him you love Him and want Him. Set your heart after Him. When you read the Word, ask Him to speak to you. But also use words to tell Him what He means to you.

Seeking God Corporately

This passage refers to us personally but also corporately in the church. When I have been seeking Him all week long every day, then I bring that hunger into church with me. And frequently we just get distracted by life and simply need to be reminded to seek Him above all else. Our church family needs our leadership in seeking the Lord to be reminded again that He is really all I need. Songs like “Lord I need You” and “You are my desire- all I’m living for” help us set our attention again on Him.
