Knowledge is information. Wisdom is knowing how to use that information correctly. Wisdom comes in a variety of ways. Much of our wisdom comes from observing people and discovering right and wrong ways to accomplish things. Our parents instilled wisdom through word and deed. But what do you do when you lack wisdom for a specific situation?
1. Ask God for wisdom
God always has the answers because He knows you and your future and your past. He is able to speak to you through His Spirit to your spirit.
James 1:5-7 states: “ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.”
Once we pray, then we should fully expect God to provide the wisdom we need. We just lay the request before God and then praise Him until the wisdom appears. Many times we have a knowing on the inside or peace that will guide us.
2. Look to God’s Word
Proverbs is full of wisdom. The principles from the Word of God will never be violated when you act wisely. This is the reason a continual diet of the Word of God is so important because you begin to know God’s ideas and thoughts about a variety of topics. When the emotional pressure of decision-making appears to you, it’s great to find the answer from the treasure of God’s Word within you.
3. Ask for godly counsel from other people when you still aren’t certain
It’s always wise to seek counsel from someone else when you are emotionally involved. They may see things you don’t see.
4. Let Peace be your guide
Peace is always a good way to check if you’re on the right track. God’s peace is described as a guard. “And God’s peace be yours, which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 amp
