Devotion about Slaying Giant Problems

October 1, 2021

Giants come in all sizes. There are financial giants. There are sickness giants. There are relationship giants. There are self-esteem giants. We have a big God who loves impossible situations and we are His children. Just like David in the Bible, we have a covenant with God that enables us to do mighty exploits and cut down some giants. The fact is, most of us don’t see ourselves as giant killers.

We are all born babies and dependent. When we look at our geneology or our education as the reason we cannot be a giant killer, we are looking at the wrong thing. Let’s look at David for example as recorded in 1 Samuel.  Samuel the prophet was instructed to anoint Israel’s next king. After lining up all Jesse’s sons, God hadn’t picked any of the strong, old, trained sons. Instead He chose David, the youngest shepherd boy who hadn’t even had military training.

“But the LORD told Samuel, “Don’t look at his appearance or how tall he is, because I have rejected him. God does not see as humans see. Humans look at outward appearances, but the LORD looks into the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

The Bible records many examples of ordinary people who just believed in an extraordinary God. It is never our ability, but always what God can do through people who will believe Him.

But let’s go into the New Testament and see that Jesus has authorized us in His name to do some serious giant slaying.

Mark 16:17-18  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

When you are a believer in Jesus you are authorized to use His name and kill some giants. Realize it’s the Name of Jesus and the power behind His name that does the work. When we become born of the Spirit of God, we are given this authority. The more we read the Word to discover what belongs to us, the more we will have the faith to kill the giants that face us. You may not be born a giant killer, but you certainly are reborn as one!

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”  1John 4:4
