3 new things a believer possesses

October 30, 2020

I like new things and so does God. The greatest thing that ever happens to us once we are born into this world is to be born again by the Spirit of God when we accept Jesus. Today’s devotion let’s look again at what being a new creation really means.

“Now if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 The Passion Translation

The notes in the Passion translation for this verse bear repeating below:

“This would include our old identity, our life of sin, the power of Satan, the religious works of trying to please God, our old relationship with the world, and our old mind-sets. We are not reformed or simply refurbished, we are made completely new by our union with Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit” (The Passion Translation footnotes)

So let’s look at 3 new things a believer possesses:

1.A New identity means we are no longer identified as sinner or unworthy. We are sons of God and no longer separated from the Heavenly Father.

2.New authority means now we are in the family of God we have authority over fear and sin and the enemy satan. Our authority comes through the name of Jesus which now belongs to us as believers.

3.New relationships means I’m a child of God- not just a created person. I’m joint heirs with Jesus. I’m able to love others with God’s love. I can come boldly to the throne of God because Jesus made the way. I can also boldly put the works of satan under my feet in Jesus’ name.
