In every church we continually need to teach and explain because each generation must be reached . Communication requires thinking about the people with which we work.
For example when you say “We have a 4 measure intro in 3/4”, A trained musician knows immediately what that means. But what about the new recruit who doesn’t read or understand music? We open a service saying “let’s bring a sacrifice of praise”. Does this image cause a nonbeliever to wonder when the animal sacrifice will begin? Or an older leader may say “back in the Reagan days” and you weren’t born yet.
In Genesis 11:5 the people of Babel all spoke the same language and began to build a city. It got God’s attention and he said “These people are working together because they all speak the same language. This is just the beginning. Soon they will be able to do anything they want.” CEV. What they were building was not what God intended and He confused their languages and they were scattered. This is an interesting concept when you apply it to a church. When we fail to speak the same language we are scattered. People don’t feel they fit in.
But the other side of this is that God said they worked together because they spoke the same language. And they would be able to do anything they wanted- or put their minds to. Imagine when we have God’s plan of making disciples in our churches and our worship helps bring people together. One vision with great communication can lead to great increase. Great communication only happens when we work at it and try to understand the different groups of people we serve. But great things happen as we speak the same language. Are you regularly communicating the vision of your church to your congregation and team in ways that people understand?

- Am I expressing terms when leading that are confusing to some?
- Is there a unified written plan that helps communicate my goals?
Prayer: Lord, help me better understand and communicate what You are speaking to me. Help my team speak the same thing.
