Amazing Things Happen when you Praise

August 12, 2020

Praise will get you out of some fishy situations. Nobody knew this better than Jonah. In this scripture passage Jonah was in the belly of a fish choking up seaweed and definitely feeling green. He was in a bad situation because he  had been running from the plan of God. He certainly understood now that to obey was better than to sacrifice. He was calling on God’s mercy because he had been disobedient. He realized God was the one with power to deliver him from the situation.

Maybe you’re in a situation you’re not proud of and need God’s mercy. The first step to getting out of the belly of the fish is to shout praise and sacrifice thanks. Praise will get you out of the depths because you turn your face to the One who can deliver you. What exactly can you be thankful for? Like Jonah, you can be thankful that God could deliver you even when you made a mistake. Jonah thanked God for keeping him alive instead of allowing him to drown. It wasn’t pleasant, but he made a choice to rejoice.  Even when it looks too big for you- it’s never too hard for God.

When Jonah used the word “salvation” he understood it meant deliverance, aid, victory, prosperity, health, and welfare. In other words, God could turn this situation around and bring blessing.

The result was that God spoke to the fish to spit out Jonah. And he was delivered onto dry ground. There is power when we look to God and in faith speak thanksgiving instead of complaining. Connecting to his power source brought him deliverance.
