It’s a Privilege to live close to God

August 7, 2020

This morning as I read Psalm 15 in the Passion translation I was struck with the privilege of being close to God. I sometimes take it for granted that I can praise Him and talk to Him and approach Him in prayer because I’m so used to coming to this place. Let’s read it.

“Lord, who dares to dwell with you? Who presumes the privilege of being close to you . . .”  Psalm 15:1 The Passion Translation

We can dwell with Him

Jesus told us in John 15: 5 “As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you- but when you live separated from me you are powerless.” So our dwelling in God’s presence is two-fold. First, we have access because we are God’s children through the new birth. But secondly, this is an actual relationship- not mere church membership. The privilege to dwell with Him is conditional upon our taking time listening to both His Word and His Spirit.  So we as believers dare to dwell with Him because we belong there. We also maintain our fellowship and stay close because we want to remain fruitful.

The privilege of being close to You

Oh my what a privilege that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week I have constant access to my Heavenly Father and precious Savior Jesus and wonderful counselor Holy Spirit! Some days I choose this world over the divine presence of God? Help me to live closer to Your presence all day long.
